How our proof approval works

After you order, we show you exactly what we are about to make and wait for your approval before we start. The proof appears on the thank-you page straight after checkout and arrives by email too. It lists every option, your size in both US and Japanese sizing, and your engraving text exactly as it will be engraved, with a preview. Approve it with one click and we begin. You can correct engraving text yourself at no charge; any other change comes to us, and we confirm whether it is possible and whether the price changes before anything is made. If we do not hear from you, we send reminders on day 2 and day 5, and after 7 days we proceed with the proof as shown.

Why we do it

Everything we make is engraved, sized and made for one person, which means it cannot be returned for a wrong size or a typo. The proof is there so you never have to wonder whether you typed the name right or picked the right size. It is also where most mistakes are caught, by you, at no cost, before a single cut.

Step by step

1. You order. Your configuration and engraving are exactly what you entered in the builder. Before checkout you also tick a box to confirm you have checked your size and engraving.

2. You see the proof on the thank-you page. Straight after payment, the thank-you page shows your proof in full, with Approve and Request a change buttons. Most people approve it there and then. If the page needs a moment to prepare it, you will see a short note and the proof follows by email within a few minutes.

3. You get the proof by email. Whether or not you approved on the thank-you page, the proof email arrives with the same details and buttons. It shows:

• every option you chose: design, metal, width, and chain for pendants
• your size in US and Japanese sizing, with the sizing and resize notes for that piece
• your engraving text, large, exactly as it will be engraved
• an engraving preview, alongside photos of real finished engraving in the same style
• the production time and, if you gave one, your needed-by date

4. You approve or ask for a change. Approve with one click and we begin production. We email to confirm.

5. We make your piece. We email when production starts and when your piece ships. Your order status link, in every email, shows where things stand at any time.

Changes before you approve

Engraving text can be edited directly on the proof page. The same character limit and character set apply, and the price does not change. When you save, we send you a fresh proof with the corrected text.

Anything else — size, metal, design, width, or adding or removing engraving — goes to us as a message from the same page. We reply to confirm whether the change is possible and whether the price changes. Nothing is made until you have seen and agreed to the updated proof.

Changes are generally not possible once production has started, because by then the metal is being cut to your specification.

If you don’t respond

Some people are travelling, some proof emails land in a spam folder, and some people simply trust that the order is right. So that no piece waits forever, the proof has a timeline:

• Day 2: a reminder email.
• Day 5: a second reminder.
• Day 7: if we still have not heard from you, we proceed with the configuration shown in the proof, and email you to say so.

Every reminder states the exact date we will proceed. You can approve, request a change, or cancel for a full refund any time before that date.

About the engraving preview

The preview is a text rendering in the style of the engraving, so you can check spelling, spacing and length. It is not a photograph of your finished piece. We engrave by hand, so letter shapes and spacing will vary slightly. That is why we show photos of real engraving in the same style next to it.

What you type is what we engrave. We do not proofread spelling or meaning, so please read every letter. If you are engraving Hawaiian words, check the ʻokina (ʻ) and kahakō (ā ē ī ō ū); our guide to Hawaiian words for engraving has the correct spellings.

Checking your size

Your proof shows your ring size in US and Japanese 号 sizing, or your bracelet size in inches and centimetres, with the notes for that piece, such as going up half a size for bands 6 mm and wider.
