Where to buy Hawaiian jewelry on Maui
Where to shop for Hawaiian jewelry on Maui: Lahaina and Kāʻanapali as they rebuild, Wailuku, Pāʻia, Makawao, Wailea and Hāna, and how to spot Maui-made work.
We also make Hawaiian jewelry. Our own pieces are never part of the evidence here, we don't rank sellers, and no one pays to be listed. Our editorial policy.
On Maui, most jewelry shopping is in Wailuku, Pāʻia and upcountry Makawao, at the Shops at Wailea on the south shore, and in West Maui, where Lahaina is still rebuilding after the August 2023 fire. Galleries in Pāʻia, Makawao and Wailea sell work by artists who live on Maui, while resort and mall stores mix local and imported pieces. In Lahaina, check that a shop is open before you go: many businesses that lost their stores now trade from the Lahaina Cannery or Whalers Village in Kāʻanapali.
How shopping for jewelry on Maui differs
Maui’s jewelry is spread across small towns more than concentrated on one street. Two of the four Maui businesses in our directory are galleries that represent many artists, rather than a maker’s own shop, so ask the gallery who made a piece and where.
Lahaina has a long history with Hawaiian jewelry. Maui Divers Jewelry began as a Lahaina diving company and started making black coral jewelry in 1959, before moving its operations to Honolulu. It is one of two companies in our directory with stores on several islands, which appear in the table below on every island page.
Where to shop on Maui
Lahaina and Kāʻanapali
Lahaina is still rebuilding after the August 2023 fire, which destroyed much of the historic town. The County of Maui reopened Front Street to vehicles on August 1, 2026, after debris removal and seawall and sidewalk repairs, but much of the historic district is still fenced or under construction, and many former Front Street businesses have not yet reopened.
Shopping has moved to the edges of town and to Kāʻanapali. The Lahaina Cannery reopened in March 2024, and several Lahaina merchants moved there. Lahaina Jewelry, a family-owned store founded on Front Street in 1989, lost its store in the fire and reopened at the Lahaina Cannery in 2026, according to Hawaiʻi Public Radio and Maui Now. In Kāʻanapali, Maui Now reported in March 2026 that Whalers Village had welcomed several Lahaina businesses that lost their stores.
Please check that a shop is open, and where, before you go. Listings, maps and older guidebooks often still show Front Street addresses. Lahaina is a community in recovery; be considerate about where you park, stop and take photos.
Wailuku and Kahului
Wailuku has a historic main street, Market Street, with independent shops. Aloha Nectar, which says its jewelry is created on Maui, has a shop in Wailuku. Wailuku First Friday has been held on Market Street in the evening, with artisans, handmade crafters and food vendors; it is one of the county’s Maui Friday Town Parties. Kahului, next door, has Queen Kaʻahumanu Center, often described as Maui’s largest mall.
Pāʻia and Makawao
Pāʻia, at the start of the road to Hāna, has boutiques, craft shops and galleries, some selling only work by Maui residents.
Upcountry Makawao’s galleries and shops are mostly along Baldwin Avenue. Maui Hands, a gallery group representing artists who live in Hawaiʻi, lists galleries in Makawao, Pāʻia and Wailea, and says it carries a large selection of Niʻihau shell lei.
Wailea and Kīhei
The Shops at Wailea is the south shore’s resort shopping center, with art galleries and jewelry stores, from international brands to Hawaiʻi galleries. Kīhei, just north of Wailea, has smaller shopping plazas. Resort stores carry both local and imported work, so ask about origin.
Hāna
Hāna is small and remote. Hana Coast Gallery, beside the Hāna-Maui resort since 1990, represents Hawaiʻi artisans, with fine art, koa woodwork and jewelry, including koa-and-titanium pieces by a Hawaiʻi maker. Shopping there is limited, so treat it as a stop on a trip you’re making anyway. See our guide to koa wood jewelry.
Made on Maui or imported: how to tell
Hawaiʻi law (HRS §486-119) allows a “made in Hawaii” label only where at least 51 percent of the wholesale value was added in the state. A gallery that represents only island artists can usually tell you who made a piece; a resort store may stock both local and imported lines on the same shelf. Ask:
- Who made this, and where was it made?
- If it’s engraved, was it cut by hand, and where?
- What is the metal, karat and weight?
For Niʻihau shell lei, sold in some Maui galleries, Hawaiʻi has a separate labeling law. Read our Niʻihau shell jewelry guide before you buy. Our made-in-Hawaiʻi jewelry guide covers the general label.
For prices, see the survey below and our price guide. In the October 2026 survey, sterling silver pendants ran from about $40 to about $325 and 14k gold heirloom bracelets from about $1,600 to about $17,000.
Timing: engraving while you visit
Maui’s towns are far apart, and driving between West Maui, upcountry and the south shore takes time, so plan to order and collect in the same area. If you want engraving, order early in your trip, ask for a promised date, and ask whether the shop will ship the piece if it isn’t ready. Our guide to engraving before your flight has more.
Before you go
- Lahaina: check first. Confirm a shop is open and where it is now, since many have moved.
- Galleries: ask who made it. Ask for the artist’s name, the island and the materials on the receipt.
- Niʻihau shell: know the law. Ask for the shell type and maker, and read our guide first.
- Gold: ask for the weight. Compare pieces by karat and grams, not by price tag alone.

What things cost
Our price survey of 97 listings from 21 sellers shows what Hawaiian jewelry typically costs, by piece, metal and width. Prices in Hawaiʻi shops are usually tagged before tax; the general excise tax is added at the register. See what Hawaiian jewelry costs and the tax on your receipt.
Questions
Can I shop in Lahaina now?
Partly. Lahaina is still rebuilding after the August 2023 fire. Front Street reopened to vehicles on August 1, 2026, but much of the historic district is still being rebuilt, and many businesses trade from the Lahaina Cannery or Whalers Village in Kāʻanapali. Check that a shop is open before you go.
Where can I buy Maui-made jewelry?
Look in Wailuku, Pāʻia, Makawao and Wailea, where several galleries and shops sell work by artists who live on Maui or elsewhere in Hawaiʻi. Our directory lists Maui makers and galleries. Ask where each piece was made and by whom.
Where can I buy Niʻihau shell lei on Maui?
Some Maui galleries carry Niʻihau shell lei; one gallery group in our directory has a large selection. Niʻihau shell lei are protected by a Hawaiʻi labeling law, so ask for the shell type, count and maker before you buy, and read our Niʻihau shell guide first.
Is Hāna worth the drive for jewelry shopping?
Only if you're going anyway. Hāna is a long, slow drive, and shopping there is limited, though the town's gallery beside the Hāna-Maui resort represents Hawaiʻi artisans, including jewelry makers.
